Supreme Court revisits its position on 498A

Lately Supreme Court has decided to put a halt to the abuse of Section 498A and has issued guidelines stating that there will be no arrests of husband and his family members till the charges are verified; as it is observed that complaints are being registered by women under Section 498A to implicate their husbands and his family.

However, Supreme Court is likely to re-examine its position on this.

Approach on Transgender (Protection of Rights) Bill in Parliament

Government decides to re-introduce the Bill to safeguard the rights of transgender persons. This Bill is proposed to eliminate the discrimination against a transgender person in areas such as education, employment and healthcare. Offences like compelling a transgender to beg, denial of access to a public place, physical and sexual abuse, and so on, would attract up to two years’ imprisonment and a fine.

Basic Qualification Mandatory For Service Selection Board

The Supreme Court on Friday, issued notice to the State of Jammu & Kashmir and the Service Selection Board for the Power Development Department, that a candidate with a higher qualification cannot be considered eligible for a post for which he doesn’t have the basic qualification.

Justice Ghulam Mohammed passes away

Former Acting Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, Justice Ghulam Mohammed passed away at 67 following a heart attack on Thursday.

Hon’ble Sri Justice Ghulam Mohammed was born on 6th April, 1950 at Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. Justice Ghulam Mohammed served as judge of the High Court from 1999 to 2012.
